Organic farmers expand lawsuit against Monsanto

A very interesting case:

PubPat filed a lawsuit on behalf of 60 organic farmers and associated organizations. The farmers want assurance from Monsanto that they will not be sued for patent infringement if their farms become contaminated with the company’s genetically modified crops.

It's such a crazy idea that a company could sue you for having GM crops in your field that you don't even want just because they hold the rights to certain gene patterns. In an ideal world such GM crops wouldn't exist. In a slightly less ideal world we would treat these runaway GM crops as a form of pollution and Monsanto would have to pay you for contamination of your field and crops.
