On these pages I'll try to explain what it is, why I like permaculture and how you can apply it for yourself. My definition of permaculture:
permaculture is an ethical design system that enables you to create a sustainable living enviroment which imitates a natural ecosystem.
This one of many definitions, other definitions can be found here:
http://www.permaculture.net/about/definitions.html
Unlike most forms of design the foundation is neither form nor function but three ethics:
Earth care
People care
Fair share
I will focus on how I apply these ethics in my life as well as designs that I've made and interesting projects I found out about or have been to. I'll post interesting articles which in one way or another relate to sustainability, farming, going green, etc.
As this blog continues to grow I hope to fill it with more detailed and practical information DIY info and tips as well.
About me:
My name is Steven Kuipers, I live in Delft, Holland. I first learned about permaculture 4 years ago at BOOM festival in Portugal. This festival is renowned for their efforts at reducing the enviromental impact of the festival, striving to be more sustainable. After that initial meeting with permaculture I worked as volunteer on several different projects. The most notable of these were a 7 week period I stayed at IPEC in Goinana, Brasil and a 5 week period I spend at ecotruly near Lima, Peru. In 2010 I followed a full PDC at the Llanfyllin workhouse hosted by Steve Jones from sector39. Other teachers here included Chris Evans, Chris Dixon and Mark Burnett. From september 2010 I'm also following a course in herbology at "de Sprenk" in Gemert-Bakel in the Netherlands.
